The world is your layover.
That Layover Life is a community travel magazine. A library of first-person stories from travelers who actually went, edited lightly in Copenhagen by a human who reads each one before it ships.
How we read a place.
Layovers
A city and a time window. What to do with the hours nobody plans for.
Paw Passport
Travel with the dog. Real logistics, Magnus supervising.
Marathon Diaries
Seven continents on foot, one start line at a time.
Cultural Pattern
What a place teaches about how the world actually works.
EV Routing
Long-haul by electric car. Charging stops, range math, the detour worth the kilowatts.
The Stories.
The Library is where every published TLL story lives. Travelers writing about specific places at specific times, filterable by country, theme (Salty Air, Wild Routes, Alpine Escape, Desert Glow, Sunset Mode), or contributor.
Stories are reviewed by an editor within 48 hours. We edit lightly for clarity and Editorial Charter alignment. We never rewrite your voice. The byline is always human, never AI-generated.
Browse the Library →The Travelers.
Every story has a named byline. Every traveler has a profile. Some are Nomads. Some are Expats. Some are Press travelers on assignment. Some just signed up to read.
Each profile shows their countries, cities, states, national parks, marathons, and the stories they've written. Plus their social links (YouTube, TikTok, Substack, Instagram, Vimeo, Twitter) so you can follow elsewhere. Think LinkedIn for travel, not a feed.
Meet the Travelers →Pack the bestie.
If your travel companion has paws, feathers, or scales, the Paw Passport is for them. Register your bestie with name, species, breed, and EU pet passport status.
Pets get their own profile. Their own country count. Their EU pet passport details stored privately. They get tagged on stories they came along on. Travel besties of any species: Samoyed, hairless cat, parrot, ferret, whoever's on the road with you.
View the Paw Passport →Write the trip.
Pen a Tale is how stories get into the Library. Sectioned form covering: set the scene (country, city, sensory anchors), the story (headline, excerpt, body), the hook (pull quote, reader question), photos (hero + gallery), the details (region, themes, pets along), the sign-off (mood + name + hashtags), and editorial preferences (credit toggle, syndication).
An AI editor pre-reads for em-dashes, banned words, missing flag emojis, and pull-quote candidates. The editor (Nancy, today) decides publish or revise. We respond within 48 hours.
Submit a story →Every country, visualized.
An interactive world map showing every country you've visited. Rose means yes. Cream means not yet. Hover for the name. Click for the country's story page. Counter at top: X/195 with percentage.
Plus the Passport with chronological visit log (Places Been style), city + duration + pet co-traveler tags + linked stories per visit. The Lifer badge unlocks at 195/195.
View The Map →The trips happened. The opinions are uncut. The third-act sag has been edited out.
We are not a gym, not a feed, not a booking site. We are a library of travel stories from named travelers who got on the plane. Free to join, free to publish, free to keep on the road.
