Cookie policy.
Every cookie, who sets it, why, and for how long. Change your mind any time.
This site uses CookieConsent, an open-source consent banner, to manage consent. What the site stores falls into the four categories below. Google Analytics only runs after you say yes.
Necessary. Keep the site working: your login session (Memberstack), your consent choice itself (CookieConsent, stored on your device). These cannot be switched off.
Preferences. Remember choices you make, like the countries and parks you tick on your passport, so you do not have to make them again. These live in your browser's storage (not a cookie) and never leave your device unless you are signed in, when they also save to your account.
Statistics. Google Analytics 4, consent-gated. Tells us which stories get read. Data retained 14 months. We also use Ahrefs Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies or personal data, so it runs without a banner choice.
Marketing. Not currently used. If that ever changes, this page changes first and nothing runs without fresh consent.
Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it: open the cookie preferences and untick anything. The banner reappears and your new choice applies immediately.
